Hello, everybody! Welcome!

Hello, everyone!

This is where 10% of your grade begins. The rules for the discussions are as follows:

1. You will be posting a blog on an issue. What you will do is EMAIL to me the blog on the issue you wish to cover and the commentary you wish to add to the topic (naturally, you've got to start the conversation). I will post it up on the blog site for your classmates; whereupon, the discussion will begin.

2. You will also be responsible for CONTRIBUTING your thoughts, comments, theories, comparisons, rants, raves, inquiries, outrage, etc. on each of the blogs posted by your classmates. It's a give-and-take discussion, as well it should be.

3. Your blog postings and responses must NOT be anonymous. It wouldn't make much sense to grade an anonymous contributor when I wouldn't know to whom I'd grant the grade, would it?

4. Since your blog postings and commentaries aren't going to be anonymous, I expect you to respond thoughtfully and intelligently. Please note, however, that I will not censor your writing. I strongly adhere to the ideology of freedom of speech. I simply ask that you refrain from using vacuous vulgarities and brash insults directed at your fellow commentators. That's not adequate argumentation, in any case.

5. Your blog issue will be on a CURRENT topic that's debatable. This may require you to start reading the newspaper and newsworthy magazines, watching the tube, browsing the internet, and so forth. Direct your blog commentators to certain stories/articles on the topic as well, to assist in your discussion and their contributions.

6. Bear in mind, folks, I'll be contributing, too! Don't let MY vantage dissuade you from posting either (in good argumentation, no side is 100% right or wrong!). That certainly ISN'T what freedom of speech entails. In other words, feel free to disagree with my views. Just be prepared to back up your claim!

7. Have a good time with this. What I hope this blog will do is free your mind a bit and give you some ideas as to research paper topics you might not have thought of before!

So, without further adieu... Let's begin with something easy --

Each of you introduce yourself and give us ONE pet peeve -- one thing that irritates you -- big or small -- that really gets under your skin.

I'll start:

I'm MacKenzie Jennings, and lately, I've been quite irritated with the number of license plates and bumper stickers that indicate drivers' political and/or religious agendas. Personally, I think they should be replaced with messages indicative of the drivers' driving habits instead.

  7. My name is Brittney Jarrell. I am 21 years olds. I have attended PCC for three years and plan to study Business Management and minor in Religion.
People who are fake really get under my skin. For example, alot of christians go to church and act like they are as perfect as christ and then as soon as they walk out the door they start cussing and treating poeple rudely. Other people tend to act in a positive manner when they are around a large crowd. Once you get them to yourself, they start gossiping. Why can't people just be true to who they are?

  8. I'm Jesse Padgett, and the thing I hate the most is when people think they need to drive slow for no reason whatsoever! I enjoy driving very fast, but safely. I honestly think speed limits should be outlawed, but that's just an opinion.

  9. My name is Brittani Earp and my biggest pet peeve is rude people. The people who talk back to adults and don't use ma'am and sir drive me crazy. People should be more respectful to others and treat others the way they would like to be treated.

  10. I'm Brittany Beauville, and i am quite irritated by a one word response. I hate when you ask someone a question and they answer you in one word, but the most irritated word to use is "YEP". Personaly i feel that if you are going to one word someone you should just completely ingore them, and stop with the irritation.

  15. I'm Leanne and the thing that irritates me the most is other drivers, well the bad ones at least. I honestly don't know where some people got their license to drive.

  16. I'm Mai-Thao Nguyen. Recently, I have been quite irritated with the increasing number of people who drink and drive. After having fun, they will claim that they are not drunk and will drive home just fine. They don't consider about the real issues of drink and drive carefully. Especially teenagers who drink and then drive, which is very risky and dangerous to themselves and people on the road. I think they should learn more lessons about the influence of drink and drive before take the realistic experience by themselves, which is usually after an accident.

  19. Hello, my name is Richard Ferguson, everyone calls me Lance. One of my greatest pet peeves is when other cars come up from behind me with their bright lights on. It is impossible to tell if they are being rude or just forgetfull.

  20. I am Rony Alnord and I am a pcc student. My biggest problem on this country is about young people who take their pleasure in drug and other bad stuff. They don't even know how their life is going to terrible.

  24. My name is Summer Goode, my pet peeve is stupid people. I understand that somethings are difficult to understand and I am willing to work with you but, if you act stupid about something and after repeated practice you still make the same mistakes; I will give up and get irratated. I have pretty good patience for kids, I have a 2 yr old, I understand they need more time. It is lazy adults and ,especially girls, who pretend they are dumb to look "cute" that bother me the most.

  25. My name is Admatha St Hillaire. One of my pet peeves is people who sit and try to lecture you about wrong doings in your life, whether they are accidental or not but turn around and do the same thing.

  26. My name is Zack Peterson. One of my pet peeves are verbally and physically abusive parents. People should be respectful of there children and try to encourage them to do better and make the right decisions in life. I believe that anyone who is a parent and abuses their children should be put away because it is not fair for the child to have to go through that. Many wonder why kids grow up to be violent towards others or insecure about themselves when their parents are largely at fault.

  27. My name is Maritza Miranda. One thing that aggrevate me is disrespectful teenagers. I think parents should teach their children to have respect for others and have manners.

  28. My name is Brittany McBryde. One thing that bothers me is when people look down on others, like teenage mothers. I am 19 and have a son who will be 3 in April, and that's all people will see. However, I still graduated from high school with honors, I'm in college, support myself and my son, and my son is happy and healthy. It wasn't the best idea to have a child at a young age, but it happened and I'm doing what I need to do to take care of my son.

  29. Hey, this is Jesse Padgett again. Iwould like to respond to Brittney Jarrel. Her pet peeve is christians who don't practice what is preached from the Bible. I know it's not a huge help to say this, but for what it's worth, I would like to apologize for the way you have been treated by "christians" in the past. I am a Christian myself and I also hate it when fellow "christians" fail to live like christ. That is a huge problem and it literally drives me NUTS!

So, I am very sorry and I hope that I, and other christians you meet in the future, will be a true example of what a Christian is supposed to be.

  30. People that want to have a discussion or discourse that have an uneducated opinion. Their opinion is void of any facts or rational basis for what they believe. They think that everyone’s opinion should be considered equally. That is absurd. They often misconstrue their opinion for fact. They take for granted that what they are told is true. They think that others are conceited or haughty because they do their homework and take the requisite time to investigate all the facts with an open mind. I guess I am saying that I cannot tolerate sycophants or inane people that mindlessly believe what they are told. Such people are the enemy of the truth and freedom, and are primarily responsible for the dumbing down and the dimise of any intelligent society.
